GULF SAVANNA REGION

The Gulf Savanna of the Northern Territory encompasses vast open woodlands and sheer escarpments. The coastal region includes the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf and the Gulf of Carpentaria with the Sir Edward Pellew Group containing the most significant islands.

Around 66% of the region is pastoral land and 20% Aboriginal land while horticulture is a small but important industry. Vegetation type is mostly woodland/open woodland with smaller areas of grassland and open forest.
